November 10, 2021. She was the daughter of Emily and Jamil Kassar, born on October 20, 1925.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings Edward, Josephine, Victor, Albert, James,
Adelle, Yvonne; and her husband of 57 years, Raymond G. Najjar Sr. She leaves behind her
children Richard Najjar (Joann Thompson), Karen Szigety (Richard), James Najjar (Irene) and
Raymond Najjar (Jean). She also leaves behind cherished grandchildren Michael, Katherine,
Alexander, Daniel, John, Sophie, Victoria, Isabel, James, Lily, Andrew, and Sophia.
Laurice loved her family fiercely! She was at her happiest when family gathered together to eat
and luckily the Najjar clan has always been happy to accommodate that desire. Family, friend, or
stranger, if you came to her house the first thing you would hear would be a list of foods that
could be pulled out for a little mezza.
She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and sitting on the stoop to watch passersby and chat with
neighbors. She worked at home raising her children until they grew up or just moved out. After
that she worked for some years at Abraham and Strauss as a salesperson and when she retired
she gave her time freely as a dedicated volunteer at the Methodist Hospital gift shop up until it
was closed due to the pandemic.
She had an open mind and an open heart. Though preceded in death by many family members
and friends, she was never alone and continued to welcome new loved ones into her life. She
stayed connected with nieces and nephews and remained active in her church life at Saint
Saviour’s.
She had a zest for life and approached every day with gratitude. She shared her love for life and
other opinions freely. She will be remembered and missed by all who knew her.
Visitations for Laurice will be held Monday, November 15, 2021 from 2:00–5:00 PM and
7:00–9:00 PM at Joseph G. Duffy, 255 Ninth Street, Brooklyn, NY 11215. A funeral mass will
occur Tuesday, November 16, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Church of Saint Saviour,
611 8th Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11215.
