It is sad to hear that my friend has passed on. It was strange to know that his phone was inoperable after calling it several times.

He truly was a gentle giant!

His kindness and gratitude and generosity will live on!

I had the honor to work with him at Kingsbrook.  He taught me a tremendous amount, always kindly and patiently.  I will never for get his speed and competence in emergencies.  I once saw him perform an emergency tracheotomy in literally 20 seconds start to finish.  He will be remembered.

Dear Nord Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. I just found out of Merl's passing after an internet search. Much like the gentleman who wrote before me, I got suspicious after he didn't wish me a happy birthday April 28th. Merl was the first to wish me a happy birthday every year since '93 when we met. After I didn't hear from him, his cell phone was not in service and his last Xmas card was sent back, I feared to worse.

Merl was my roommate in Los Angeles during the summer of '93 at the Drew/UCLA medical program. We spent that summer studying for the MCAT. On the weekends, we cruised his '89 black Honda Accord and took in movies such as Cliffhanger and the first Jurassic Park. He was the best friend anyone could ask for. His inspiration fueled my quest to become a physician. We were suppose to meet up in New York 2 years ago but he said he would be in China. Living on the West coast didn't give us a lot of opportunities to visit.

Merl's smile, humor, and loyalty will be missed! "Vato" is what we called each other.  I'm gonna miss you "Vato!"

A gentle giant through and through. Intelligent, with a great sense of humor. We spent many times sharing funny jokes and funny videos, and commenting on them. That was our thing. On a regular basis he would send me lots of videos that he finds on the internet or was sent to him, and I would do the same thing too. We would laugh at them, make jokes about them or even debates. It happened for several years, which is why I knew that something was wrong when I was sending videos in 2019 and he wasn't responding. He is missed, he always was a loving person, that cared for his friends. I regret not seeing him in 2019 like we had planned to. I thought we always would have time. But we both lived a very busy life. I have said a prayer for him, and I will say another one today. I hope he is at peace, and I hope that his family and friends are strong. God bless him. Amen

My heart goes out to the Nord Family.  My utmost condolences.  During my early years, I can recall the foundations of a bright star.  To hear that he became a surgeon was not a surprise. A walking inspiration manifesting to his fullest potential. That is the Merlin I know. 
Since the late '80s, It is with profound regret that we never had the chance to meet again.  However, to be silent while others commemorate visibly would be dishonorable.  He left this planet as a hero in the service of humankind.  A selfless act. He is not longer of the flesh, but his legendary status ascended to immortality.

Dear Soeur Ismelie, Pierre, Harry, Euguel &  Samuela, 

I will always remember Merlin for his warm smile, courteousness and zest for life.  This includes him directing me as part of the youth choir in Temple Salem in Boston, Massachusetts.  Jean 11:35 "Jésus pleura".

Dr. Malik was a great leader to the youth at Temple Salem. His work to so many will never be forgotten. May the Lord continue to strengthen his family.

My name is Rayvoll Ormond and my condolences goes out to the Nord family. Merlin and I had been friend for 15 years, and he was truly pure in heart. We would talk and laugh for hours about everything from music to medicine. 

He was an angel, sounding board, rock, and shoulder to lean on during my mother, grandmother, and father’s passing.

My heart is heavy and I truly miss my friend everyday!!!

Malik was a beautiful soul who embodied Christian principles, and touched so many people. He was always available with sage advice or a helping hand, and will be deeply missed in New York. 

Malik was such a caring and hard working individual. There are no words to express the loss that you are going through but I am praying for your family Please  accept my deepest condolences. 

My heart was broken to learn of Merlin’s passing.  My earliest memories are those a happy child met with the untimely death of his dad in an automobile accident.  The odds were immediately stacked against him.   A black fatherless boy growing in the inner city was not supposed to get far.

Through the support of a strong mother and siblings, Merlin defied the odds and stereotypes.  I watched him become an accomplished musician.  He followed his passion in becoming a physician.

His commitment to to relieving human suffering never wavered in our nation’s darkest hour.  He risked his life in helping others and paid the ultimate price.

I remember him with affection and respect.   My heart weeps along with Soeur Ismelie and his brothers and sister.  I pray that the Lord brings comfort to your hearts until the morning of the great reunion.

We had a wonderful evening, we always enjoyed spending time with each other.  Merlin was kind, thoughtful, generous, supportive, lovable, smart, and extremely loyal.  Merlin was my buddy, my boy!! I miss my friend and cannot imagine life without him.
