On Tuesday, September 21, 2021, Marie Racioppo, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away at the age of 76.
Marie was born in Brooklyn on June 14, (Flag Day), 1945. She was the daughter of Ida Marmion and the youngest sister of Bill, Bob, and Jean Marmion.
Marie married Ken on July 29, 1967, in Brooklyn. Marie worked at several jobs throughout her career; the one she was most fond of was her time as a Unit Clerk on the 5th floor of the Methodist Hospital for the Mother-Baby Unit.
Marie was a strong, resilient, fearless, and feisty woman, who had a soft side, as she was very compassionate, supportive, caring, and very, very generous. She loved life and worked and played hard. Christmas, was her favorite holiday and she lived to surprise and delight all.
Marie was an avid tennis player back in the day. She also was a stick-ball player, video game lover, softball coach for the Father’s Guild, and Girl Scout Leader. Marie loved her Cruises and would rather be in Bermuda, Aruba, or the Bahamas, if she could choose! She also loved Atlantic City and was a “gambler” of sorts. She was known to win quite a few sweepstakes from the “Daily News,” and chose many special people to go on trips with her.
Marie loved spending time with her husband Kenny, the love of her life as they were married for 54 years. She adored her children and grandchildren and never missed any special life events for all of the children and grandchildren. Marie was loved by her family, friends, and co-workers alike.
Marie is survived by her husband Ken, her sister Jean, her children Debra and son-in-law Lorcan, Lisa and son-in-law Sean, Michael and daughter-in-law Tricia, and Denise and son-in-law, Paul and by all of her grandchildren who adored spunky Grandma /G-MA: Victoria, Jessica, Andrew, Josh, Dylan, Kiera, Liam, Cristian and Mia, and her many in-laws and nieces and nephews. And we cannot forget Oreo, their puggle.
A visitation for Marie will be held Thursday, September 23, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at M.J. Smith Sons Funeral Home. A mass of christian burial will occur Friday, September 24, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Holy Name Church, 245 Prospect Park West, Brooklyn, NY 11215.
