I never met Marion. I was working at the University of West Florida's Grammar Hotline when Marion became a frequent caller, asking questions about a book she was working on. She was always friendly, and over time, we developed a rapport, a sort of long-distance friendship. Eventually, I gave her my personal number so she could call and talk as long as she wanted. She was always entertaining and thoughtful. The last time we spoke, she kindly called to check on me after Hurricane Michael. I didn't know when she passed. I suppose no one who knew her knew I existed or knew I would care, but when I didn't hear from her for a while, I started looking for obituaries. I don't know why I'm thinking about her now, but I'm missing her voice today. Rest in peace, friend. May you have a "bejeweled crown" and a bag of "fried potatoes" wherever you are.
