I had the great good fortune to serve as a medicine resident under Dr. Martin Lidsky.   I consider him to be one my strongest influences in clinical medicine and a very great man.  He combined the best in diagnostic acumen with genuine compassion for all his patients, what ever their background, and boundless energy to give them the very best care always.  I think of him often, and miss him very much.  My deepest condolences to his family.

Worked with Dr. Lidsky in an administrative capacity for many years at Baylor. He was consumate physician to his patients, strongest advocate for old fashioned medical care the  way it should be provided. He was also a loving caretaker to his spouse. He will be missed. God Bless You Dr. Lidsky. You will be fondly remembered.

With deepest heart ache and inmense gratitude I received the notice of one of my best teachers.  Dr. Lidsky show me true devotion to patient care. He was a great clinician. He show me how to diagnose gout using clinic's microscope. He show me the art of painless arthrocentesis. I am currently a pediatric rheumatologist, only 3 of us in DHA. Dr. Lidski you open my eyes to rheumatology and feed my pasion for patient care.  You are one of the greatest. We will dearly miss you.  Might one day we become a great physician like you. Preayers for your family.  Thank you, you are forever a part of every joint exam I do. 

We were looking for blood samples from patients with autoimmune diseases for our research work during late 1970s. I got in touch with Dr. Lidsky and he was very helpful and generous that he personally brought samples from many patients that helped us in our research projects. Dr. Lidsky, Thank you.

Dr.Lidsky was a phenomenal teacher and I enjoyed every moment of clinic with him. It was the highlight of residency to correctly use a polarizing microscope at bedside with him and diagnose a patient in record time!
I’m sure he is missed at the VA by his colleagues and patients.

Many years ago we shared stints at Maimonides Hospital in Brooklyn.
When in practice I referred patients to him, but only the most difficult to diagnose or treat.
He always come through.
He was never in a hurry and was always down to earth and gracious.


I echo the words left by others. Dr Lidsky was one of the best doctors I ever worked with. I knew when he gripped my arm firmly and started steering my somewhere that I was going to see something fabulous. Making him smile was one of the highlights of my training.

I have fond memories of my rotation at the VA with Dr Lidsky. He knew his patients well and reminded us as residents the importance of physical exam and good history taking in arriving to the right diagnosis.  Clinic often went late on days with Dr Lidsky but I appreciated his commitment to patients to give each one the time necessary and to ensure they were all seen, recognizing the effort taken to get there. His passion for medicine was inspiring and I can only hope that I will carry that same passion throughout my own career. I send condolences to his family and to the Baylor community. 

My condolences to the Lidsky family. Dr. Martin Lidsky was an insightful and caring physician. He was also a teacher and mentor par excellence. I have a very distinct memory of Dr. Lidsky agreeing to see my wife when I was a resident. He scheduled her on the evening of Super Bowl Sunday at his office. We arrived early evening and there was a sign to take a seat and wait. There was no one else at the office, no receptionist or nurse. Shortly after we arrived he emerged and called us back. He took a complete history and weighed my wife and took her vitals himself. He also performed a very thorough rheumatologic exam, just as he had taught me at the VA clinic. I remember how kind and reassuring he was both to her and me when he rendered his expert opinion and gave recommendations. 

I often hark back to things Dr. Lidsky told me when I rotated with him. I also remember well his kindness and humor and I learned so much from him observing his interactions. He had an amazing bedside manner though some may have considered him gruff. He seemed to always have a knack for knowing when to scold or gently chide and when to reassure and provide hope. Dr. Lidsky was truly a blessing to all of those who trained under him and to all of those he cared for.

You do not know me, and probably Dr. Lidsky never knew how much I appreciated having the honor of knowing him and working alongside in clinic.  Although we had different specialties, he always was available and willing to teach and see my patients when needed.
A true example of professionalism and altruism in top of excellence on his field.

I am an endocrinologist.  he helped train me in the 90s.  He was very patient with his patients, and with learners like me.  I over head him calling some patients.  He gave everyone all his private phone numbers.  I'm a more compassionate physician because of his example.

My rheumatology rotation with Dr. Lidsky at the Houston VA in November 1997 was a highlight of my internal medicine training.  I think of him every time I hear an ad for ankylosing spondylitis on the radio, as he carefully taught me how to recognize that and other rheumatologic disorders on X-rays.

Dr. Lidsky taught me so much!  He was a dedicated clinician and a great teacher.

I was Dr. Lidsky's social worker for 17 years at the MEDVAMC. He was one of the most brilliant diagnosticians I have ever met! He and I formed a bond from the very beginning that lasted beyond his retirement from the VA. Both he and his wife Elaine were two of the kindest individuals I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. I will miss his words of encouragement and the long talks we had at the end of the work day. May He Rest In Peace.

My prayers and condolences go out to his family and friends.  I worked with Dr. Lidsky in the Specialty Rheumatology Clinic at the Houston VA.  Dr. Lidsky .  I was also a veteran patient of Dr. Lidsky and he was a beloved member of the VA staff.   His patients loved his attention to their care.  Rest in peace.
