Mary Teresa Reilly passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, June 15th, 2025 after having been surrounded by her many nieces, nephews, and grandnieces. Mary was a true native Brooklynite, born in her family’s apartment on Sackett Street in 1927 and moving shortly thereafter with her family to the apartment in which she lived the rest of her days, on 7th Avenue above Cortese’s Grocery.
She was the fifth of a close-knit family of 6 siblings (James, John Jr., Gerard, Francis, Mary, and Martin) born to Irish immigrants (John Joseph Reilly of County Leitrim and Bridget Fahy of Galway) who emigrated in the early 20th Century.
Mary was an alumna of Saint Saviour’s Grammar School and Saint Saviour High School. She graduated with a BA from Saint John’s University in 1963 after having attended night school while working at Metropolitan Life Insurance Company.
She was a dedicated member of her parish, serving as lector, Parish Council member, and more.
She is survived by her many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.
