Maurie touched many lives from his hometown of Chicago to his adopted home in Brooklyn. Oh, how he loved Brooklyn and all of his many friends here!!! He was a real neighborhood guy and showed us, his family, that Brooklyn feels like a small town. He never lacked for good friends in time of need among his colleagues from Brooklyn College and neighborhood buddies.
When it came to sports, however, he remained a Chicago Cubs, Bears and Bulls fan, taking lots of joyful criticism from his Brooklyn buddies.
He was an avid University of Notre Dame fan, no matter what the sport - men and women’s teams. Maurie graduated from Notre Dame and earned a master’s degree from Brandeis University. He was a member of the administration at Brooklyn College for about 50 years, as Assistant to 5 different provosts. He treasured his friendships among the faculty and staff there. He kept his friends from Notre Dame and Brandeis for his entire life. Maurie was a very beloved brother to 8 siblings and a very special uncle to many. We will miss him terribly, but never forget his unbelievable wit, intelligence and warm heart. He was a wonderful gift to all in his world.
