VILLANO, Nicholas E. on December 2, 2019. Beloved husband of the late Rosemary. Loving father of Marie & Jack Salazar, Anthony & Sandy Villano and Nicholas & Donna Villano. Dear grandfather of Jason, Victoria, Joseph, Brandon, Victor, Nicky, Alex Gavrilov and the late Jack Nicholas Salazar. Great-grandfather of Addison Rose. Nicholas is also survived by his brother, Anthony & Florence Villano and many loving nieces and nephews. Nicholas was a sanitation man with the DSNY. He was also a proud Marine, attaining the rank of Sergeant, bravely serving during WWII in the Battle of Iwo Jima. Nicholas received a citation from Major General Bourke, commanding the 5th Marine Division, for meritorious and efficient performance of duty during operations on Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands in 1945. When a fire in a division ammunition dump, started by enemy shelling in early morning, threatened the entire supply of munitions, Nicholas entered the area, realizing the imminent dangers, and assisted in extinguishing the flames with negligible losses. His actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
Reposing Saturday & Sunday, 2-5 & 7-10 at the CUSIMANO & RUSSO FUNERAL HOME, 2005 W 6 Street, Brooklyn, NY. Funeral Mass to be celebrated on Monday, 9:30 am at Our Lady Help of Christians Church. Interment to follow, with military honors, in St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale, NY.
