Nicola Rutigliano

Nicola (“Nick”) Rutigliano of Brooklyn, New York passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at 93 years old. Nicola was born in Bitetto, Bari, Italy. He immigrated to New York in 1966. Nicola was one of five children born to Domenico and Maria Antonia in 1926. He proudly served in the Italian Army in 1948. He met the love of his life, Giovanna Soranno, in Italy and they married on April 18, 1949. Nicola had hands of gold, and was extremely creative. He took that creativity to New York, and eventually landed at his dream job at Lenox Hill Hospital, Manhattan, in the Engineering Department. He retired in 1997. He enjoyed his daily five-mile walks along the water, meeting up with friends, which he did until he was 91 years old, making homemade wine and tomato sauce, watching soccer, baseball and hockey games on television, gardening and watching his twin granddaughters grow. He will be remembered as a creative, hardworking man who loved sharing many stories. Nicola is survived by his wife, Giovanna, son Domenico, daughter Maria, daughter Lauretta and her husband, Michael and granddaughters, Gianna and Olivia. A private family gathering for Nicola will be held.
