Oleg Alekseevich Malkin, 87, of Far Rockaway passed away Thursday, February 5, 2015, at Park Avenue Extended Care in Long Beach, NY, following a long illness. Born in Moscow, Russia, Mr. Malkin came to the US in 1994 settling in Brooklyn, New York, before moving to Far Rockaway 18 years ago.
Prior to his retirement in 1992, Mr. Malkin was teaching at Moscow State University of Geodesy and Cartography. Double PhD, Professor of Physics and Mathematics, Mr. Malkin authored several books on leading research in physics of plasma and was granted over 50 patents. Mr. Malkin also chaired a Department of Physics at Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas during 1970s. After graduating with honors from Moscow State Technical University majoring in mechanics, Mr. Malkin worked at several research organizations in Moscow, including Moscow Engineering Physics Institute and All-Russian Electrotechnical Institute. He also later graduated from Moscow State University majoring in physics and mathematics.
Oleg Malkin touched many people throughout his life. Always optimistic, positive and engaging, he spoke several languages and made many friends in Russia, Europe and the United States. Oleg was respected for his deep knowledge of literature, poetry, music and art.
A wonderful husband and father, Oleg is survived by his loving wife, Tatiana Malkina (Chirkina), his son, Kirill Malkin, and his family.
