Peter Lovett

March 24, 1950April 6, 2021

Peter was a joyful soul, he strived to leave the world a better place. The second son of Agnes and Joseph Lovett he empowered his brothers and sisters, Joseph, John, Nora, Ann and Mabel with his heart warming smile and delightful sense of humor. He developed and succeeded in becoming Power Memorial High School outstanding relay team. His exceptional performances were evident in the four meets at Madison Square Garden, the Eastern States Championships, the Penn Relays and the New York Relays. He was also a life-long, accomplished member of the Brooklyn and Brooklyn/Queens cross country running community, winning six Brooklyn cross country running championships and two Brooklyn-Queens cross country running championships while he was the Coach of Bishop Kearney girl’s high school track team.

Pete began his career at the New York Parks Department in 1986 and served in many different roles in Public Programs and Maintenance and Operations until he was appointed Deputy Center Manager of Fort Hamilton Senior Center in 2001, eventually becoming the Center Manager. He dedicated the last 20 years to Parks and ensured that the Brooklyn community, particularly seniors, had the best recreation programming around. His leadership and generosity were exemplary and inspiring to all who came into contact with him.

For example, when Pete went to the main office last week to pick up staff checks, a coworker named Donna told him that his "white hair was glistening in the sun"; to which Pete replied "Stop flirting Donna; You ain't getting none of this." LOL. That's typical Pete.

Pete strived to be a friend to all including his staff, park patrons, permit holders, community members, and elected officials. He has left a profound impact on each and every one, and he will be greatly missed.

Peter was a very good man, a real Brooklyn Guy, and someone who cared deeply about humanity. The world will be diminished by his passing. May he rest in peace for eternity.

I am saddened to hear of Peters passing. He work for me for many years (late 80's-90s) while in Brooklyn Parks. Always an upbeat and cheery and colorful character that you would want on your team.
He was indeed a committed civil servant if there ever was one.

I have fond memories running for Archbishop Molloy HS in’69 in the 2 mile relay against Power Memorial against Peter and brother John. We were always 2nd to Power as they had one of the best 2 mile relay teams in the country. Peter was a great competitor and even better person.
RIP Peter!

I met Pete when he was a sophomore at Power running X-C. Other schools talked about a Power runner that would pass them in the back hills only to stop and get passed by them...then 20 seconds later this small Power runner would sprint by them again. This lasted for two miles. I'm sure Pete outkicked them. Always a smile !

Pete was ALWAYS there at any Manhattan College event. I loved the guy and will miss him dearly.
