

Born on March 21, 1953, in Vittoria, Sicily, Philip carried with him a deep appreciation for culture, history, and the arts throughout his life. He migrated to the United States with his family as a teenager and later built a life in New York, where he worked as a dedicated MTA bus driver, serving the people of New York City with pride and commitment.
Above all else, Philip was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his beloved wife, Marina; his children, Cristina, Marco, Daniel, and Gregory; his cherished grandson, James; and his siblings, Maria and Joseph. He was predeceased by his sister, Carmela, whose memory remained close to his heart.
Those who knew Philip knew they were in the presence of a truly remarkable man. exceptionally intelligent, he possessed a profound knowledge of history and a passion for learning that inspired everyone around him. Many believed he could easily have been a professor, as he had a gift for sharing knowledge. Fluent in multiple languages, he connected with people from all walks of life and embraced the richness of different cultures.
Philip’s talents extended far beyond his intellect. He was a gifted illustrator and photographer. As a teenager, he was also a musician, performing in a band called The Black Stones, demonstrating an early passion for creativity and self-expression that remained with him throughout his life.
A true Renaissance man, Philip’s interests and abilities seemed limitless. Whether discussing history, creating art, taking photographs, making music, or sharing stories with family and friends, he brought enthusiasm, insight, and joy to everything he did. His warmth, humor, and generous spirit made a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Philip will be remembered not only for his many talents and accomplishments, but for the love he gave so freely to his family. His wisdom, creativity, laughter, and kindness will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Visitation will be held at Cusimano & Russo Funeral Home, 2005 West 6th St, Brooklyn, NY 11223, US, on Thursday June 25, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm and again from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, and on Friday June 26, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm and again from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
A Mass Of Christian Burial will take place at Our Lady of Grace RC Church, 2322 E 4th St, Brooklyn, NY 11223, US, on June 27, 2026, from 9:30 am to 10:15 am, followed by Committal at The Green-Wood Cemetery, 25th St, Brooklyn, NY 11232, US, on June 27, 2026, from 11:00 am to 11:30 am.
