Randolph Emmett Powers

Randolph "Randy" Powers, 78, of Brooklyn, New York, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Born on April 17, 1948, Randy proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He went on to a long career with MTA Bridges and Tunnels, where he rose to the rank of Sergeant. After retiring, he continued working in security on Wall Street.

But his true joy was sharing the city he loved as a walking tour guide. Randy brought New York's history to life for countless visitors, and anyone who walked with him could see how much he loved telling its stories. He was also a dedicated runner who ran the Tunnel to Towers race every year after 9/11. He was a devoted fan of ice cream, especially Rocky Road, and could often be found in his favorite corner reading The New York Times under the lamp he took with him everywhere.

Above all, he was a loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Kathleen (Kim) Powers; his children, Rebecca, Scott, James, Brian, and Lauren; his son-in-law, Kenny Cardona; his grandchildren, Emma, Brayden, Rylan, and Carter; his sister, Maureen Galligan and brother in law Jack Galligan, his brother Christopher Powers and his sister in law Sherry Hynes and numerous loving nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Randolph and Evelyn Powers, and his sister, Donna Doremus.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 29, from 3–5 PM and 7–9 PM at Duffy's Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, September 30 at 10 AM at St. Saviour Roman Catholic Church in Park Slope, Brooklyn, followed by a brunch at the family home. Friends and family are welcome to join us.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
