Reuel Elizabeth Walrond passed peacefully on February 27, 2014 surrounded by family. Reuel was born on November 25, 1938 in New York City and was the oldest of three children of Elaine Govia and Philip Thomas.
Reuel was mighty in spirit and overcame many obstacles in life. As a child, she overcame the polio epidemic that paralyzed and killed thousands. She re-learned how to walk and run and continued her journey through life with grace. She accepted Christ as a child while attending Bethel Gospel Tabernacle in Queens, NY. She was the first of the family to graduate from college and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Brooklyn College. She was an outstanding teacher for many years in the NYC School District. Students and parents loved her because she was an inspiration and she loved life. In the prime of her life she suffered and survived a brain aneurism that paralyzed and debilitated her life. Through it all, Reuel was quick to offer a cheerful greeting to all who knew her.
Reuel is preceded in death by her maternal grandmother Imogene Govia; father, Philip Lee Thomas; and former husband Wilfred Walrond. She leaves to mourn her homegoing her mother, Elaine G. Thomas of Brooklyn, NY; son, Steven Walrond (Debbie) of Kendall Park, NJ; son, Jason (Ronia) of Dayton, NJ; grand-daughter, Maya Lynn; brother, David Thomas (Anne) of Overland Park, KS; sister, Donna Thomas of Brooklyn, NY; and family and friends.
Although she is absent from the body, we rejoice in knowing she is present with the Lord.
Hallelujah and Glory be to God!!
