Ronald Christensen was born in Brooklyn on October 18, 1930 to Oscar and Bessie Christensen (nee Berkowitz). He graduated from James Madison High School, then attended Brooklyn College before joining the Merchant Marine. He returned to Brooklyn College, and there met Angela Guerriere. They married June 29, 1957. They had two children, Lisa and Greg. After earning a Masters degree in Education, he began teaching foreign languages at a junior high school in Levittown, then became the department chairman. The family moved to Smithtown in 1966. He and Angela were active in the Smithtown Arts Council, and in historical preservation organizations. Later, he worked for Exxon on oil tankers, then as an inspector of tanker operations. He loved cats. He is survived by Greg, grandson James, nephews Neal and Anthony, nieces Barbara, Kaaren, Jamie and Loretta, and their respective family members.
Due to the current circumstances, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
We ask that no flowers be sent. If anyone would like to make a small donation in Ronald's name, any organization devoted to protecting wild animals would be an excellent choice.
