Rose Sphatt, 93, of Brooklyn, NY , passed through the Gates of Heaven on Tuesday, March 19, 2024. She was beloved mother of Lilette (John), Allen (Sandy), Joanne, Rosanne (Robert), and Richard (Patti), adored grandmother to Christopher, Lori (Jonathan), Jenna Rose (Joseph), Joseph, Anthony (Kimberly), Richard Jr. (Crystal), Nicholas, Matthew and Thomas, cherished great-grandmother to Danielle, Lucas, Riley, Ryan, Michael, Maddie, Dominic and Stefania Rose, loving sister to Marie (John), and Aunt, Cousin and Friend to countless others. Rose was predeceased by her loving parents, Mary and Ernest, her beloved brothers Angelo "Butchie" and Anthony "Figsy", and her adored son-in-law Joseph.
Rosie lived her life with eternal spunk- she loved to dance, listen to big band music & singers like Dean Martin, Perry Cuomo & artists of her era as well as watch old movies with Cary Grant, Claudette Colbert, Clark Gable and Errol Flynn. She loved to laugh and lived to love and be loved by her family and friends. She was her happiest entertaining her family and rejoiced in the joy of all little ones as her family continued to grow through the generations. She was an amazing cook, whipping up delicious traditional Italian dishes as well as delectable fare from Asian or American cuisines. We will miss sitting down together to enjoy her gooey Lasagna, sauteed Broccoli Rabe, Egg Foo Young and Fried Chicken, amongst many others.
Faith was very important to Rosie, she instilled it along with good values in her children, and she enjoyed attending mass in her community and watching it on TV when she was unable to attend in person. Her generosity extended throughout her family, she was giving of herself and her time in whatever ways she could, always insisting on expending her energies on gifts to family members and to charities that were close to her heart, even if she could only give a dollar or two.
Rosie will be dearly missed by all family and friends that knew her. She was a force of life for her 93 years with us, sharp, strong, witty, funny, loving, generous and caring, and we know she will rejoice from above with Our Lord watching over the beautiful family she created.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital would also be appreciated.
