Samuel Paduani, Sr., left this earth on May 11, 2026, at the age of 70. A lifelong Brooklyn, New York resident, Sam was larger than life and his love for his family, heritage, and quiet passions defined his.
Beloved husband of Phyllis, Sam shared a devoted marriage filled with love, loyalty, and unwavering partnership. In the final and most difficult years of his life, Phyllis cared for him with extraordinary strength, compassion, and devotion.
Born to the late Aleja and Miguel Paduani, Sam was the eleventh child and remained deeply connected to his large and loving family throughout his life. He was a caring brother, uncle, and steady presence to many nieces and nephews who will remember his warmth and humor fondly.
My father-in-law was a hardworking man who wore many hats over the course of his life. He was the well-known superintendent at a Greenwich Village apartment complex and at St. Joseph’s Church, and took pride in his career with the New York Public Library. Outside of work, Sam enjoyed fishing, his GI Joe collection and video games. He had an eclectic taste for music, and was passionate about Taíno culture. He carried a deep pride in his Puerto Rican heritage and treasured the opportunity to reconnect with his roots during a meaningful trip to Puerto Rico in 2006.
Above all else, Sam was a proud father and grandfather. He was the loving Pop to his sons Sam Jr. (Colleen) and the late Miguel "Mike" (Jodi), with whom he is now reunited in eternal peace - just six months apart. Though the loss is immeasurable, there is comfort in imagining them together once again.
There was nothing in this world that brought Sam greater joy than his beloved grandchildren, Samantha, Declan, Quinn, Jonah, and Charlize. They were truly the light of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them. His love, guidance, and gentle presence will remain with them always, continuing to shine brightly in their lives for years to come.
Sam will be remembered for his resilience, his devotion to family, his quiet strength, and the pride he carried in where he came from and the people he loved most. He leaves behind a legacy of love that will not be forgotten. 🤍
