Theodora Ferreira

Theodora Monteiro Ferreira, age 98, of Oakland, California passed away on the evening of December 26, 2021, in her home. She peacefully transitioned from this world in the presence of her loving sons, Carlos A. Ferreira and Jorge P. Ferreira.

Theodora was born in Lowell, Massachusetts on September 10, 1923. After the tragic death of her father Antão Cirillo Monteiro in 1932, Theodora and her mother, Maria De Jesus Albuquerque, relocated to Santo Antão, Cabo Verde. She married Helder Ferreira in October 1949 in the village of Coculi. She gave birth to Carlos in July 1950 and to Jorge in May 1953. The family immigrated to America in September 1954 and took up residence in Brooklyn, New York, where they pursued the American dream with vigor and pride.

At the age of 94, Theodora relocated to Oakland, California, where she spent her remaining years making new friends and inspiring people as she had done all of her life. Remarkably resilient and unflinchingly optimistic and joyful, she eventually succumbed to Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

She was the proud grandmother to Michael Ferreira and Theresa Weinstein, and great-grandmother to Miles Weinstein and Maya Ferreira.

Funeral services will be held at the Joseph G. Duffy Funeral Home, 255 Ninth Street, Brooklyn, NY 11215.

A one-day visitation will take place on Wednesday, January 26 from 2pm to 8pm, followed by a funeral Mass on Thursday morning, January 27 at Immaculate Heart of Mary church, 2805 Ft. Hamilton Parkway, Brooklyn, NY.

Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY, where Theodora will be laid to rest alongside her mother and husband.
