Virginia L. Brown

Virginia Louise Brown (nee Casazza), 82, of Brooklyn, NY, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was born on November 14, 1940, the third child of the late Frank and Marie (nee Lezoli) Casazza.

Virginia was a loving, devoted wife, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Bill; they were married on her 24th Birthday, November 14, 1964. She is also survived by her children Regina, Thomas (Kathy), Kathleen Stasinski (Peter), and Colleen Liell; her brother George (Susan) and sister Marie Bisztyga (Eugene). Her sisters, Frances and Louise Wells (Al), predeceased her. Her nine grandchildren, Corrine (TK and Jason), Kaitlin (Jim), Craig, Maverick, Jack, Autumn, Liam, Miriam, and Spencer, also survived her, and she was awaiting the birth of her first great-grandchild.

Virginia was incredibly proud of her Italian heritage and ensured her grandchildren knew they were Italian by repeating family names Squeri, Lezoli, Fugazzi, and Casazza; she was their Nonna.

Virginia loved playing outdoors in the streets as a child until she was called in for dinner. You could find her playing stickball or punch ball with her brother George. In later years, Virginia played softball for Farrell's Bar and Grill and The Three Jolly Pigeons. One of her greatest joys was playing softball with her daughter Colleen. Besides playing sports, she loved going to Yankee Stadium and watching the Yankees. She also loved watching football; everyone knew not to call her on Sundays or Monday evenings.

Virginia had an easy way about her and could easily converse with anyone. She always had a smile and was the life of the party. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

A visitation for Virginia will be held Sunday, March 26, 2023, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, at Joseph G. Duffy, 255 Ninth Street, Brooklyn, NY 11215. A mass of Christian burial will occur Monday, March 27, 2023, 10:00 AM at Holy Family St. Thomas Aquinas, 249 9th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11215. A committal service will occur Monday, March 27, 2023, 11:30 AM at Green-Wood Cemetery, 500 25th St, Brooklyn, NY 11232.
