

Wilma Cyrus Forde was born on September 13th of 1930 to Madaline Louise and Cuthbert Graham Cyrus of Rock Dundo, St. James, Barbados W.I. The first of five girls, she was soon followed by Marjorie, Esme, Ena, and Marva. Wilma excelled at short-hand, typing, and was a skilled seamstress.
On April 26th, 1962 she married organist and clerk James E. Forde. They lived in Bush Hall St. Michael where she enjoyed gardening. After emigrating to New York City in 1966 they resided in Bushwick. They settled in Park Slope Brooklyn after the birth of their only son James.
Wilma soon found employment at the New York Hospital where she remained employed for the next 27 years, retiring in 1995. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, and confidante for her friends and family. Her generosity, charm, compassion, and sense of humor was a constant presence. Religious holidays and observances were especially meaningful for Wilma and she always made an effort to participate and assist in making any occasion meaningful.
In retirement, Wilma engaged in the activities of her extended family, large number of friends, godchildren, and neighbors. She was an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church. She enjoyed regular summer outings, trips to her homeland, International travel, and the occasional visit to her son in San Francisco, CA.
Wilma is predeceased by her husband James Forde. She leaves behind to mourn: Her son, her sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of relatives in the U.S, England, Barbados, and Canada.
Visitation will be held at Joseph G. Duffy, 255 Ninth Street, Brooklyn, NY 112153905, on April 28, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
A Committal Service will take place at Rosehill Cemetery , 792 E Edgar Rd, Linden, NJ 07036, US, on April 29, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 12:30 pm.
