Beloved husband of Araceli (Cely) for 49 years. First-born son of the late Mildred (Lillian) and Frederick Summerton. Loved brother and brother-in-law of Gordon and Colleen, Dave and Heidi, Don and Donna and Muriel and Pat (deceased). Much loved father of Terry and Melissa. Cherished grandfather of Evalani and father-in-law of Amanda. Great friend to Ron and loving uncle to his many nieces and nephews. Sadly missed by his cousins, his extended family in Canada, U.S. (New Jersey) and Australia, along with his many friends.
Fred is remembered for his involvement in local sport, in particular hockey as a goalie in his younger years, then as goalie coach and scout with Les Castors de St. Jean and Le Titan de Laval, as well as running the Huron Hockey School with his dear friends Ron and Flo. He also loved baseball and softball, the latter being where he played most of his later years on the field with Les P’tits Vieux and Les Ambassadeurs both in Brossard and umpiring men’s and ladies’ softball games with Ron across several leagues on the South Shore.
Fred also spent countless hours in the stands and drove thousands of kilometres taking both Terry and Melissa to all their practices and games across several sports throughout their own sporting lifetime. Fred was a fierce competitor and did his best to instil that in Terry and Melissa, to varying degrees of success, though his passion and love of sports certainly lives on through them. Along with his love of sports, he also loved to have a laugh and spend time relaxing listening to country music.
We remember Fred with many stories of time spent together, special events and life milestones, laughs shared and his enduring love for his family.
A celebration of Fred’s life will be held on Tuesday, 17th August, visitation from 2:00 PM and celebration of life 4:00 PM to 5:00PM at La Maison Darche, 7679 Boul. Taschereau, Brossard, QC, J4Y 1A2.
One of Fred's final wishes was that instead of flowers, should you wish to make a donation in his memory to The Montreal Canadiens Children's Foundation (www.fondation.canadiens.com/en) for underprivileged children to assist with playing sports, that would be a great way to remember him.
Fred’s final resting place will be at Côtes-des-Neiges Cemetery.
