Abel Zapata, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Born on November 15, 1944, in Brownsville, Texas, Abel lived a life grounded in hard work, deep love for his family.
A devoted father of nine children, Abel’s greatest joy was found in the warmth and laughter of family gatherings. Whether he was tending the grill at a cookout or sharing stories while casting a line on a quiet fishing trip, Abel cherished every moment spent with those he loved.
Abel worked tirelessly throughout his life, as a farm worker and as a skilled welder. He carried a strong work ethic and quiet determination, qualities he passed on to his children and grandchildren.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and unity. His memory will live on in the hearts of his large and loving family, and in the many lives he touched through his kindness and example.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Abel is survived by his wife, Gloria Zapata; his son Juan A. Zapata (Ana); his daughter Griselda Z. Robles (Arnoldo); his son Abel Zapata Jr.; his daughter Gloria Z. Moreno (Magdaleno); his son Gabriel Zapata (Yadira); his son Jose Luis Zapata (Janie); his son Cristobal Zapata (Veronica); his daughter Esmeralda Zapata (Mark); and his daughter Rosalinda Zapata (Israel); his sister Maria Rosalinda Juarez.
Abel was preceded in death by his father Casimiro Zapata and his mother Ramona Zapata; his brother Pedro Buendia; his sister Petra Hernandez and his brother Miguel Zapata.
He also leaves behind, 24 Grandchildren and 18 Great Grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to attend visitation services on July 10, 2025 from 12:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Funeraria Del Angel Buena Vista, Chapel of Angels.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m., followed by a Rosary at 7:00 p.m., as we gather to honor and remember a life well lived.
