Albert T. Villarreal was known as "Coach V" around the community but to the family he was "Tommy" born and raised in Brownsville, Texas by his loving parents and five siblings. Albert was a natural born athlete with knowledge and great skills in basketball. He had a passion for all sports. He graduated from Homer Hanna High School in 1979 leaving his footprints in the athletic department. He was employed by the NBA G League (Vipers) at the Bert Ogden Arena and HEB Toros Park, professional soccer team. He was a mentor and a coach volunteer. His love for the sport influenced him to officiate many basketball games in the RGV. He inspired many young children in Brownsville and throughout the RGV. He was a true Texas fan of the Dallas Cowboys, San Antonio Spurs, Houston Astros, and Texas Longhorns. He was the life of the party and loved to be around family at BBQ's. He enjoyed cooking and would cater for private events. His meals were as warm as his heart. He was a storyteller who loved to dance and had a great sense of humor. His laughter was contagious, and he brought such joy to those around him. Albert was a family man who loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and siblings dearly. He impacted many lives with his strength and inspired everyone to "never give up". Our heart and soul mourn your loss. Your absence has left an emptiness in our hearts, but the precious memories we will treasure forever. You are loved and will be greatly missed. You touched so many lives with your humble and caring heart. 2 Timothy 4:7 "You fought the good fight and you finished your race, and kept your faith."
He is preceded in Death by his Parents Ernesto & Ida Villarreal, Brother David E. Villarreal.
He is survived by Wife Corina R. Villarreal, children Aaron A. Villarreal, Michael A. Villarreal, James M. Martinez, and Jacqueline M. Rodriguez (Nathan). Grandchildren Donavan C. Rodriguez, Maverick J. Rodriguez, and Maddox K. Rodriguez. Siblings Ernest C. Villarreal III (Olga), Ida V. Gonzalez (Juan), Joe L. Villarreal (Belinda), Patricia V. Hinojosa (Martin). He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Michael A. Villarreal, Aaron A. Villarreal, Thomas M. Hinojosa, Joseph C. Villarreal, Ernie Villarreal IV, Justin E. Shull.
Honorary Pallbearers will be James M. Martinez, Nathan Rodriguez, Martin Hinojosa, Juan Gonzalez.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 6, 2021, from 1:00 pm-9:00 pm with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 pm in Chapel of Peace located at Funeral Del Angel Buena Vista at 125 McDavitt Blvd., Brownsville, Texas. 78521. Funeral mass will be held on Thursday October 7, 2021 at 2:00 pm at St. Mary's Catholic Church located at 1300 E. Los Ebanos Blvd., Brownsville, Texas. 78520. Burial will follow at Del Angel de Buena Vista cemetery. As per the family's request, masks are required for all services.
