

Amelia was born in Goliad, Texas and moved to Brownsville where she lived most of her entire life. She worked for McNair and Levi’s Strauss for 35 years.
Amelia is preceded in death by her husband, Rodolfo Ochoa; her parents, Jose Isabel Guerra and Margarita Arias Guerra; son, Gilberto Ochoa; daughter, Guadalupe Ochoa Torres; great grandson, Austin J. Wallace; sister, Santos G. Perez; and her brothers, Rico, Abel, Eustaquio, Carlos, Julian, and Elias Guerra.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving children, son, Ovidio Ochoa; daughters, Oralia (Marco Antonio) Guzman, Rosario (Rosie) Ochoa, and Lydia (Ignacio H.) Cadriel; 20 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Natividad-Linda and (Jose) Perez; brothers, Jose Isabel (Bebe) Guerra and Gilberto (Beto) Guerra.
Grandma Amelia was very much loved by her family and friends. She was an exceptional loving mother, and devoted Catholic, whose faith was nothing short of the extraordinary. Our mother was a strong willed, caring and humorous individual who opened her arms and extended her hands to the needy. From 1953 to 1998, Grandma Amelia was very active in many organizations. She was Room Mother for her children at Los Ebanos Elementary School (Sharp Elem.), Guadalupana at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, became an extraordinary minister of the Holy Eucharist at Christ the King Church, Pastoral Ministries Training Course.
She was an active member of Ladies Club, politics with Texas Democratic Party with Mr. Westbrook and Tencha Valdez. Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President, and President of the Rio Grande Valley, Brownsville Medical Center Auxiliaries, dedicated her time and energy to Good Samaritan Center, and Participation on the P.U.B. CAP of Brownsville, Texas. She also supervised and cared for Foreign Exchange students, as well as for the Visually Impaired group of blind people and helped for the Abuse Women Program.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 24, 2014 from 11:00a.m. to 9:00p.m. with a Rosary to be conducted at 7:00p.m. at Funeraria Del Angel Buena Vista.
Mass will be held Thursday, September 25, 2014 at 10:00a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, located on 2255 Southmost Rd., followed by committal service at Buena Vista Burial Park.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Raymond Guzman, Rudy Cornejo, Mark A. Guzman Jr., Rogelio (Roger) Mendieta, Michael A. Cadriel, Albert Ochoa, Cean Garcia, and James Ochoa.
Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Mario A. Cornejo Jr., Ken Wallace, Rick M. Cornejo, Tom Sejud, and Robert Ochoa.
Special Thanks to Maria Elena Lucio, Anita Barrientos, who were loyal and dedicated providers. Also, Chaplain Oscar Quintana, nurse, Susan Tagler, Elida Gonzalez and Jacob from Safe Haven Hospice.
