Artemio Martinez

Artemio touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and joyful spirit. After the early passing of his mother, he was raised in the care of his oldest sister, Leonor, whom he faithfully supported and fiercely protected throughout his life. Artemio brought light into every room with his larger-than-life laughter, his love for singing, and his passion for dancing to traditional Mexican ballads—moments that will forever remain cherished by family and friends.

His faith was an important part of who he was, and he found great joy in attending Christian church, singing hymns both within its walls and in everyday life. Known for his remarkable physical strength and willingness to help, he was always ready to lend a hand, especially during family projects. For over 40 years, Artemio was part of the Mi Jardín and Cariño programs, where he built meaningful friendships and found a loving, accepting community.

He also had a deep affection for his pets, caring for them with tenderness—his beloved dog Lobi, his many parrots, and his lemur monkey Chano, who famously made the front page of the Brownsville newspaper for skillfully riding a skateboard. Artemio’s life was a beautiful reflection of loyalty, kindness, and joy. May his memory live on in every family gathering, every shared song, and every dance. We love you, Brother and Uncle Artemio—spread your wings and fly high.

Artemio is survived by his two sisters Leonor Lozoya and Paula Castaneda.

He is preceded in death by his father Leonel Martinez, mother Carmen jimenez, and siblings Mario Martinez, Juan Martinez and Maria Ester Loredo.

Artemio tocó la vida de todos los que tuvieron el privilegio de conocerlo, dejando un legado de amor, fortaleza y un espíritu lleno de alegría. Tras la temprana pérdida de su madre, fue criado bajo el cuidado de su hermana mayor, Leonor, a quien apoyó fielmente y protegió con firmeza a lo largo de su vida. Artemio llenaba cualquier lugar con su risa contagiosa, su amor por cantar y su pasión por bailar al ritmo de baladas tradicionales mexicanas—momentos que siempre serán atesorados por su familia y amigos.

Su fe fue una parte fundamental de su vida, y encontraba gran alegría al asistir a la iglesia cristiana, cantando himnos tanto dentro como fuera de ella. Conocido por su impresionante fuerza física y su disposición para ayudar, siempre estaba listo para colaborar, especialmente en proyectos familiares. Durante más de 40 años, Artemio formó parte de los programas Mi Jardín y Cariño, donde construyó amistades significativas y encontró una comunidad amorosa que lo aceptó sin juzgarlo.

También tenía un profundo amor por sus mascotas, a quienes cuidaba con dedicación—su querido perro Lobi, sus numerosos loros y su mono lémur Chano, quien apareció en la portada del periódico de Brownsville por su habilidad para andar en patineta. La vida de Artemio fue un hermoso reflejo de lealtad, bondad y alegría.

Que su memoria viva en cada reunión familiar, en cada canción compartida y en cada baile. Te amamos, hermano y tío Artemio—extiende tus alas y vuela alto.
