Born on December 24, 1928, in Brownsville, Texas, Bert was the son of Bert Milton Blanchard Sr. and Zenida Hernandez Blanchard. Throughout his long and meaningful life, Bert was known for his warm heart, joyful spirit, and deep love for his family.
Bert was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dora Pineda Blanchard; his son, Bob Norman Blanchard; his siblings, Raymond Blanchard and Ida Marie Blanchard Ehrman; and his parents.
A proud veteran, Bert honorably served in the United States Army for 20 years, earning several honors and awards during his military career. He carried great pride in his service to his country and was respected for his dedication, strength, and integrity.
Above all, Bert was a devoted family man. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather who cherished every moment spent with his family. Bert was a very happy person who loved being surrounded by those he loved most. He took immense pride in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and found great joy in celebrating their accomplishments and milestones. Whether gathered for holidays, family celebrations, or simple moments together, Bert’s laughter, kindness, and love created memories that will be treasured forever.
He also enjoyed fishing and was a loyal Dallas Cowboys fan who rarely missed a game.
Bert is survived by his children, Bernard Lloyd Blanchard (Lillie) and Sandra Lynne Blanchard; his grandchildren, Shannon Green (Jorge), Brandon Blanchard (Evie), Sean Blanchard (Lisa), Cassandra Blanchard, and Deandra Yañez (Javier); and his great-grandchildren, Christian Green, Sebastian Green, Katherine Green, Olive Blanchard, Isabella Blanchard, Ace Blanchard, Aleena Yañez, and Adeline Yañez. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews who will deeply miss him.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2026, from 3:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m., at Funeraria Del Angel Buena Vista, 125 McDavitt Blvd., Brownsville, TX 78521.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 15, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Mary Mother of the Church, 1914 Barnard Rd., Brownsville, TX 78520. Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Buena Vista Burial Park, 5 McDavitt Blvd., Brownsville, TX 78521.
Serving as pallbearers will be Brandon Blanchard, Sean Blanchard, Jorge Green, Alejandro Garcia and as honorary pallbearer Javier Yanez.
