It has been many years since I last saw Carlos, at our grandmother Librada's house on Madison Street, in Brownsville, Texas. Nevertheless, I have never forgotten him; and, over the years my mother Isabel Guajardo Montemayor and I have reminisced about him. Carlos was very special to our mother, now deceased; she always spoke warmly about him. I am happy to read the many loving memories expressed by family; it is obvious that Carlos enjoyed a meaningful life and brought cheerfulness to many. May he rest in peace; and, may his passing remind us all about life and those things that are truly significant: family; caring for each other; and comforting each other during difficult times.

May you RIP my handsome brother Carlos! May God have his loving arms wrapped around you! Memories I will cherish in my heart. I know your up in heaven running,talking,laughing,hearing your relatives talking to you and most of all no more pain.I hope you can find a coke machine somewhere so you can drink your favorite soda.See you later brother,remember Carlos your our guardian angel take care of us!Love you and I will never forget you and I will pray for you always.

Although I did not have the opportunity to meet Carlos, I followed him as you shared posts of him on Facebook. You could easily see the gentleness of his heart in every photo you shared. I know that he was surrounded by angels who helped guide him home. He now enjoys a place at the table of the Lord in a feast for which there is no ending. Dear Barrientos Family,

I would like to express my condolences to the family and sadness at the passing of my cousin Carlos Barrientos.  As I left Texas many years ago, it’s been way too long since my last visit with Carlos.  However, I have very fond memories of our visits with him when we were all younger.  I remember that he made it pleasantly hard to ignore his hearty sense of humor and his clever way of getting your attention.  I remember when his mom (Tia Tona) and all the Guajardo Tias and Tios lovingly called him “Carlitos” and it was obvious by his expressions how happy it made him feel.  The Tias treated him as one of their very own and I’m pretty sure that Carlitos felt all the love.  He definitely made his mark in this world and he holds a very special place in all of our hearts.

Our sincerest condolences to you all..Carlitos was a huge part of our childhood, and as neighbors growing up, we share many memories. Didn't realize he was 13 days older than me! I guess our moms were pregnant at the same time!!  May he rest in peace forever in God's kingdom. May God give the Barrientos family the comfort you all need during these trying times. Carlos you were my special friend.  I will miss you. REST IN PEACE.

Even though Carlos was a special needs person,  he always showed his emotions with his facial expressions. When he was happy he had a big smile, when he wanted something he would pull out his wallet and open it to show it was empty. We always had to put something in there, no matter the amount it made him happy and when he was sad  he had this special look that told us "I don't care what you are  telling me". Once his wallet had money inside he would motion to us "you can leave now".
I will miss you Carlos, rest in peace. 

My heart is broken  in a thousand pieces at the passing of my “little brother” Carlos. I will forever remember,  miss and love him. His spirit and soul will always be part of my being. Carlos’ special needs motivated me to become an educator and to advocate for those who can’t advocate for themselves. Through him I was always reminded to stay humble and to appreciate the little, yet important things in life. I will forever love and miss him and he will always be my handsome little brother with the big beautiful green eyes. Maria Elena
