Elvia Contreras Garrido, 87, of San Benito, Texas, was born on October 10, 1938, in Mission, Texas, and passed away on September 8, 2026. Elvia will be remembered as a deeply cherished and beloved presence—steady in faith, generous in spirit, and gentle in the way she cared for others. Her life reflected devotion and loyalty to family, and a kind-hearted compassion that offered comfort without needing recognition.
With courage and quiet strength, Elvia met life with an adventurous heart and an honest, thoughtful way of seeing the world. She was hard-working and steadfast, and those who knew her best will recall not only her wisdom, but also the warmth of her humor—offered at just the right moment, and always with sincerity. In her example, many found inspiration: a life lived with purpose, patience, and enduring grace.
Elvia was actively involved in church life and gave of herself in service to others, including as a CCD teacher. She was also a proud member of the Zanta club. A dedicated educator, Elvia retired after more than 20 years of teaching with BISD, leaving behind the quiet legacy of a faithful teacher whose generosity of time and heart made a lasting difference.
