Erasto Garza Garza, 96, passed away at his home in Spring, Texas on 18 December 2018. Born on January 13, 1922 in Sombreretillo, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, he was preceded in death by his parents Teodulo Garza Cantu and Francisca Garza Villarreal, his siblings Miguel Garza, Alfonso Garza, Rosa Elia Garza de Ortiz, Urbano Garza, Teodora Garza de Pau, and his son Jose I. Garza.
Erasto was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather and dedicated businessman. He operated businesses for many years in Monterrey, Saltillo, and Matamoros Mexico. His hobbies included golf, tennis and fishing. He was an avid hiker who enjoyed the outdoors and could be seen walking in his neighborhood in Rancho Viejo, Texas until the age of 90. In 2012 Erasto and Josefina relocated to his final home in Spring, Texas to be near his son and daughter.
Erasto leaves behind the love of his life and wife of 69 years, Josefina Cardenas Medrano whom he married on May 6, 1949 and who together had six children- Jose I. Garza (deceased) (Maria Elena Rodriguez), Marisela G. de Torres (Roberto Torres), Diana M. Gonzalez, Mayda Olleros, Luis E. Garza (Graciela "Muneca" DeLeon), and Graciela L. Hernandez (Marco A. Hernandez).
Erasto is survived by his brothers Tirso Garza and Quintin Garza; his grandchildren Jose I. Garza Jr. (Adriana de Garza) , David Garza, Gabriel Garza, Moises Garza (Sally de Garza), Roberto Torres Jr. (Ashanty de Torres), Daniella Nicholson (Andre Nicholson), Raul Gonzalez, Juan Carlos Gonzalez, Rodrigo Garza, Ana Olleros, Luis E. Garza Jr., Abraham Garza, Samantha Garza, Felizzia Garza, Lucia Garza, Nicole Benavides (Joseph Benavides), Jose F. Llamas, Pedro Llamas, Marcela Swinney (Lance Swinney); as well as his nine great grandchildren and various nieces and nephews.
Courteous in manner, dignified in deportment, kind in heart and pure in morals, he was beloved by his friends, honored by his acquaintances and respected by everyone. The place he occupied in the life of his family can never be filled. That place will know him no more; but wherever there is nobility of character, wherever there is gentleness of spirit, wherever there are all the things that make for love and peace, there Erasto has found his home.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 21, 2018 from 10:30am to 7:30pm with a rosary at 6pm and will continue on Saturday, December 22, 2018 from 10:30am to 1:30pm at Funeraria Del Angel Buena Vista. Mass will be on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 2:00pm at St. Mary's Catholic Church followed by a committal service to Buena Vista Burial Park.
