She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Graciano Ortega, Luis Ortega, Raul Ortega, Santos Ortega Jr., a sister Florentina Saenz and 2 half-sisters, Maria De Jesus Hernandez Ortega and Maria Inez Cepeda Ortega.
On Nov. 16, 1957 Eva married her high school sweetheart, Eliseo Alegria. They enjoyed 60 years of marriage until his passing in 2018.
Eva enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting, DIY shows, crafting, and spending time with family. She enjoyed handcrafting gifts for her family and loved ones. Eva was an avid reader. She loved birds, fish, cats, and dogs. Every year, she loved baking her special empanadas, tamales, and pies for her family. Eva retired with the Brownsville Independent School District where she made a difference in the lives of many children. Eva's passion was working with special needs children.
During her last weeks of life, Eva spent time with all five of her children and her grandchildren, as well as her sisters, brother and nieces that prayed with her and comforted her in her last days. She was surrounded by love until she entered eternal rest. Eva was a dedicated mother and grandmother. She treasured her family more than anything and embraced every moment with them.
Her life was a living example of the Bible verse, Ephesians 4:32 — "And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ."
Eva is survived by her sisters, Elida Vidal, Tomasa Medrano, Josefina Ortega, Olga (Ramon) Torres, and brothers Abran (Dolores) Ortega and Lucio Ortega.
