Guadalupe was born in Brownsville, Texas on January 19, 1932 to her parents, Octaviano Valladolid Vega and Guadalupe Mares Vega. She was a lifelong resident of Brownsville and was active in community and church affairs. She was a founding member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Brownsville since its inception and remained supportive of the parish and its priests and staff, many with whom she continued to maintain a close friendship throughout her life. Guadalupe lived a good Christian life of service, deeply rooted in her faith in God and a firm devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe. She loved her family and friends.
Guadalupe worked for the United States District Court, and served as Deputy Clerk of the Brownsville Division, United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas until her retirement in April 1999.
Guadalupe was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Manuel and his wife Dorothy, her sister Carmen and her husband Guadalupe, her brother Fernando and his wife Tina, her brother Luis and his wife Lucila, her brother Jose, and Janie Cruz Vega, wife of her brother Antonio.
Guadalupe is survived by her sister Maria Elena, her best friend who provided her company and loving care, especially throughout her illness, and by her brother Antonio Vega. She is also survived by many nephews and nieces to whom she provided loving care and guidance in their young age, their loving families and by many cousins and relatives and friends who will cherish her memory.
The Holy Rosary will be recited in her memory at Holy Family Church on Tuesday June 2 at 7 pm with viewing and visitation following till 9 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated for her also at Holy Family Church on Wednesday June 3 at 11 am.
