With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Gumaro Rodriguez, a beloved educator, mentor, and cherished member of the community. Gumaro dedicated his life to shaping young minds and inspiring those around him with his kindness, wisdom, and steady presence.
Gumaro proudly served the Brownsville Independent School District (BISD) for 40 years, leaving a lasting impact on generations of students and colleagues. He began his career as a teacher at Cummings Middle School, where his passion for education and commitment to his students quickly became evident. Through years of dedication and hard work, he advanced to serve as an assistant principal at Pace High School. In 1999, Gumaro retired after four decades of honorable service, leaving behind a legacy of leadership, compassion, and excellence in education.
In addition to his dedication to education, Gumaro honorably served his country in the United States Air Force, holding the rank of Airman (E-2). His service reflected his strong sense of duty, discipline, and commitment to others.
Gumaro was a proud member of the American Legion, where he remained connected to his community and fellow members through shared values of service and dedication.
Beyond his professional life, Gumaro found joy in the simple pleasures that brought him peace and happiness. He enjoyed drawing, often expressing his creativity through art. Music was also close to his heart, and he spent many hours playing the clarinet and saxophone. He loved relaxing while watching his favorite western movies and staying informed by tuning into CNN.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Amparo “Bobbie” Aguilar; his father, Arturo Rodriguez; his mother, Guadalupe C. Rodriguez; his brother, Arturo Rodriguez Jr.; and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, and nieces.
He is survived by his son, Orlando Gumaro Rodriguez; his cousin, Myrna Perez (Francisco); his brother-in-law, Gonzalo Aguilar (Mary Lou); his sister-in-law, Dora Johnson (Jerry); his brother-in-law, Rolando Aguilar (Tere); and numerous nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be held at Funeraria Del Angel Buena Vista on April 30, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm, with a Rosary at 7:00 pm.
A Mass will be held at St Mary's Catholic Church on May 1, 2026, at 10:00 am, followed by burial at Buena Vista Burial Park at 11:00 am.
Pallbearers will be Ezikiel Aguilar, Roel De Xesus Aguilar, Eduardo Trevino, Rigoberto Aramburo Jr., Cyrus A. Trevino, Isaac Torres, and Preston Johnson-Quaife and Fernando Jesus Aguilar. Honorary pallbearers will be Gonzalo Aguilar, Rolando De Jesus Aguilar Sr., Hector Hernandez, Rolando Xavier Aguilar, Jose Adan Aguilar Jr., and Joshua Hernandez.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to VA Home Based Primary Care, Texas Oncology Brownsville, and Valley Regional Medical Center for their compassionate care and support.
Gumaro will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to education, his gentle spirit, and the positive influence he had on everyone fortunate enough to know him. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched throughout his career and beyond.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, former students, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
