

Hilda Iris Canales Molina, age 89, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, passed away October 28, 2010. She was born February 7, 1921 in Buena Vista Ranch, Starr County, Texas to Gervacio and Manuela Canales. She is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Santos Molina, Jr., 4 brothers, and 5 sisters. Mrs. Molina attended high school in Benavides and graduated from high school in Rio Grande City. She attended college at Texas A&I, became a teacher and taught at various schools in south Texas. One of the schools she taught at was in a one-room school house in San Pablo Ranch where she met her future husband. She lived in Brownsville for over 60 years and was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church.
She is survived by her 4 children, Norma (Alfredo) Zapata of Corpus Christi, Homero (Grace) Molina of Brownsville, Cristina (Adelaido) Martinez of Corpus Christi and Mario (Inelda) Molina of Brownsville; 14 grandchildren: Mario Molina, Jr., Denise M. Molina, Jennifer L. Molina, Lori A. Molina, Marilyn M. Martinez, Rodolfo Melendez, Jr., Sandra E. Molina, Noemi Molina, Alfredo Felipe Zapata, III, Javier Santos Zapata, Samuel Aric Martinez, Alex Martinez, Sara Alicia Martinez, and Simon Alberto Martinez; 20 great-grandchildren: Mario Molina, III, Jacob Molina, Jonathan Molina, Michael M. Melendez, Jacob Alexander Martinez, Nathaniel Molina, Lillian Herrera, Ariana B. Molina, Sean P. Molina, Gavin O’Donavan, Zackary J. Zapata, Nicholas J. Garcia, Ysabel Zapata, Hanna Zapata, Jenna A. Hudson, Dillan P. Martinez, John Alex Martinez, Bryan X. Martinez, Roland Castro, and Justin Castro; sisters, Irene Canales of Rio Grande City, and Imelda C. Garza of Kingsville; sister-in-law Marina Molina Perez of Benavides and Brother-in-law Ladislado (Angela) Molina of Corpus Christi, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The Molina family wishes to thank Palm Valley Home Health and Odyssey Hospice for the loving care given to their mother and to all friends and family for their thoughts and prayers.
Visitation was held from 3pm to 10pm with a rosary recited at 7pm on Friday, October 29, 2010 at Funeraria Del Angel Buena Vista.
A funeral mass will be held Saturday, October 30, at Christ the King Catholic Church at 2pm with interment to follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Garden.
