With a heavy heart we say goodbye to the strongest man with the biggest heart. Husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, son, brother, friend and neighbor and most of all a man of faith.
Humberto Hernandez was a native of Brownsville, Texas born March 20, 1937.
He graduated from Brownsville High School in 1959. Humberto is a veteran who honorably served in the United States Navy from November 1959 to December 1963.
Humberto was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, where he married the beautiful Maria Isabel Flores in 1966 and celebrated 55 years of marriage.
Humberto retired from Texas Department of Criminal Justice as a correctional officer after 20 years of service. Humberto enjoyed carpentry, excercising, classic cars and trucks. He enjoyed gathering with family to attend events, school recitals and sporting events, he enjoyed some good food and fun, having his morning coffee while sitting on his swing with his trusty K9 "Sailor" and four four feline companions, watching boxing with a little whiskey and coke on the side.
Most of all he love bringing joy to the love of his life "Mamota" there was nothing he wouldn't do to bring her joy and comfort.
Humberto is survived by his son Humberto Hernandez Jr.; his daughter Maria Del Carmen Hernandez; his daughter Isabel Hernandez; his daughter Angelita Tirado; his daughter Sylvia Ann Reta; his son Jose Francisco Hernandez; his son Anthony Hernandez; and his daughter Nicolasa Hernandez.
Humberto is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Humberto was preceded in death by his wife Maria Isabel Hernandez †; his father Melquiades Hernandez † and his mother Silveria Hernandez †.
A visitation for Humberto will be held Monday, March 13, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 12:00 AM with a Rosary at 7:00 PM in Chapel of Peace at Funeraria del Angel Buena Vista, 125 Mcdavitt Blvd, Brownsville, Texas 78521. A mass will be held Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe, 1200 Lincoln St, Brownsville, Texas 78521. Followed by a burial at 3:00 PM at Buena Vista Burial Park, 5 Mcdavitt Blvd, Brownsville, Texas 78521.
Serving as pallbearers are Humberto Hernandez Jr., Eduardo Martinez, Richard Hernandez, Jose Hernandez, Fausto Reta Jr., Michael Resendez, Anthony Hernandez and Fausto Reta.
