Ismael Alberto Lozano, lovingly known as “Mayito” and “Smiley,” age 54, of Brownsville, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
He lived with quiet strength and a humble heart, always grateful for every day God allowed him to be here. Through every hardship, he leaned on his faith, trusting fully in God’s grace. Even when he was told in December that he was near the end, he faced that moment with calm bravery. God lifted him up and granted him more time — time he used gently, cherishing simple joys and precious moments with his devoted wife.
A true warrior at heart, Ismael gave generously of his time and talents, never asking for anything in return. He often volunteered to cook for fundraisers and church events, serving others with quiet joy and a grateful spirit. He retired from H‑E‑B, where he was always remembered for his humorous, boyish ways and his ability to brighten any day. The family would like to thank Dr. Karkoudley, Dr. Bossous, and Dr. Sharma for their caring hands.
He used to say, with the gentlest smile, that he was “building his castle in heaven” by being generous and helping people. He believed deeply in heaven and in God’s promises, and he lived his life in a way that reflected that faith. Always willing to help anyone on this earth, he carried himself with humility and kindness, knowing that his true reward would be waiting for him in heaven.
Ismael was preceded in death by his parents, Ismael and Socorro Lozano. He is survived by his devoted spouse, Claudia Lozano, and his son, Ismael Alberto Lozano, Jr.
In his younger years, Ismael enjoyed football, baseball, and martial arts. Outside of work, he was an avid animal lover, and loved riding his Harley. He mastered the art of barbecue through Smiley’s Smoke House. His award‑winning ribs and brisket earned him recognition in competitions, but it was his joy in sharing food with others that truly defined him.
Ismael’s laughter filled every room, his energy lifted those around him, and his gift for making people feel welcome left a lasting mark on countless lives. He was a mentor, a friend, and the life of every gathering. His legendary karaoke performances — especially his unforgettable renditions of Johnny Cash — brought joy and connection wherever he went.
His faith was tested many times, yet he never complained. He accepted each challenge with patience, kindness, and humility, seeing every extra day as a blessing. Today, he rests in peace in the loving hands of the Lord, where suffering has ended and his spirit is held in eternal comfort.
