James Allen Sargent 86, passed away at home on January 5, 2022 with his wife Mary and their daughter, Norma by his side. James was born in Richlands, Virginia to father Allen Sargent† and mother Viola Harless†, both deceased.
James was predeceased by brothers John† and Emmit Sargent†, sisters Mary Russell†, Lil Blankship† and Juanita Sargent†.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, daughter Norma, grandchildren Jessica and Sean. He is also survived by his brothers Jack, and Earl Sargent, and two sisters Sylvia Bennet and Margaret Street.
James had a successful career in New York working at the Star Journal, Daily News, and New York Times as a Paper handler. In 1962, he met his wife Mary and they have been together ever since. In1997, James retired and moved to Brownsville, Texas with his wife, a Brownsville native.
James enjoyed watching the Dallas cowboys and old western reruns. He enjoyed his retirement in Texas. He liked the warm weather and enjoyed sitting on his porch enjoying the view of trees and plants that he cared for. He had the ability to make anything grow. He enjoyed his home and took pride in caring for it.
James and Mary took trips to Progresso and enjoyed visits from friends and family.
He was extremely generous to those who knew him and helped many family members here in Texas.
While James was a quiet and private person his wit would make us laugh and we always enjoyed being around him. He will be missed, dearly.
There will be a graveside service at Buena Vista Burial Park on, Wednesday January 12, 2022 at 11am.
