With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life so beautifully lived, we announce the passing of Jesus "Magoo" Betancourt, a beloved father, family man, faithful servant of God, and friend to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Jesus was the true definition of an honest, intelligent, and humble man whose kindness knew no limits. He never met a stranger and was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Whether he was fixing a car, repairing a home, or simply offering words of encouragement, Magoo's generous heart left a lasting impact on everyone he met.
A man of deep faith, Jesus found great joy in attending Sunday Mass at Christ the King Catholic Church and worshiping with his church family at Livingway Family Church. His life was a reflection of Christ's love, and through his words and actions, he modeled compassion, forgiveness, humility, and service for his five incredible children.
Jesus truly appreciated life's simple pleasures: soaking up the sunshine at the beach, preparing delicious seafood, enjoying a banana split (always without nuts), and listening to his favorite classic rock. His incredible mechanical talents and attention to detail truly shined when he was working on his classic cars.
A true "Jack of All Trades," Jesus was remarkably skilled as a house builder, house mover, plumber, electrician, mechanic, and auto body specialist. There was very little he couldn't repair, and he generously shared his talents with anyone in need.
One of Jesus' greatest accomplishments was overcoming throat cancer with strength, determination, and unwavering faith. His selfless spirit continued even in his final moments through the incredible gift of organ donation. As a supporter of the Texas Organ Sharing Alliance, Jesus gave the gift of life by donating his lungs, kidneys, and liver, blessing several families with a second chance.
Above all, Jesus treasured his family and friends. While his spirited personality occasionally showed itself, his love was always stronger. The values he lived by—faith, honesty, hard work, humility, generosity, and unconditional love—are a legacy his family will proudly carry forward.
Though our hearts ache in his absence, we find comfort knowing his love, laughter, and example live on. You will be truly missed, Magoo.
He is survived by his daughters, Rosemarie Catalano (Jonathan), Rebecca Deen (Brent), and Vanessa Bonnette (David), and by his sons, Jesse J. Betancourt and Jesse "Robinson" Betancourt, and his siblings, Carolina B. Parker, D. Leticia Martinez (Rolando), Norma Rodriguez (Gabriel), J. Carlos Betancourt, Cynthia Betancourt (Rene Zuniga). He is also survived by his grandchildren: Christian, Sebastian, Jonah, Noah, Landon, Joel, Layla, Emberly, William, Michael, alongside countless loving nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesus C. and Antonia P. Betancourt; his sister, Martha Vanessa Betancourt.
