

Born March 10, 1933 in Brownsville, Texas, Jovita was a lifelong resident of Brownsville. She retired in 2004 with over 30 years of service with the Brownsville Independent School District. She began her career at Canales Elementary and finished her teaching assignment at Perkins Middle School. She loved being a teacher, but definitely enjoyed her retirement. Though she hated carrying her cell phone, it was an object her family “insisted she have” for she was always on the go and never home. Her hobby was creating beautiful handmade jewelry and holiday baskets. She had a space, Crossroads, at the Border Flea Market, where she sold her wares and religious statues. She was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church of Brownsville.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Josefina C. Juarez.
Survivors include three children, Rita Mancillas Loredo (Ernesto) of San Antonio, Ernesto Mancillas and Ricardo Mancillas (Eva) both living in Brownsville. She has three surviving siblings, Benito Juarez (Houston), Xochilt Donald of Alburquerque, NM and Jose Juarez (Betsy) of Fairview, TN. She had 11 grandchildren and five great grandchildren and was loved by many nieces and nephews.
Receiving of friends will start at 5pm with a memorial service to follow at 7pm on Tuesday, April 06, 2010 at Funeraria Del Angel Buena Vista.
