Juanita was born on October 13, 1928, and fondly remembered her childhood in downtown Brownsville, always alongside her siblings and beloved cousins. She leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication to her family.
She graduated from Brownsville High School in 1947 and obtained a BA degree from Texas Southmost College, and began a dedicated career as an elementary school teacher. Later, she received a Degree in Special Education from Pan American University and taught children with special needs.
In 1949, she married Federico G. Delgado, and together they raised their five children in Brownsville.
After her retirement, Juanita devoted her time to community service as a volunteer with The American Red Cross, Gladys Porter Zoo, Baptist Community Hospital, Spanish Meadows Nursing Home, and the Brownsville Public Library. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Brownsville. For the past 35 years, she pursued her passion for genealogy studies, learning about her family's ancestral history and helping others to do the same.
Juanita led a life dedicated to her family, friends, God, and service with respect and love of the natural world.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Brownsville Public Library where she enjoyed years of volunteer work.
