Leonardo will be remembered above all as a devoted family man. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, creating lasting memories, and always being there with love, guidance, and support. His kindness, quiet strength, and generous spirit touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Leonardo faithfully served his country during the Vietnam War. As an engine mechanic, he worked on the legendary F-4 Phantom aircraft, taking great pride in his service and the important role he played in supporting the mission. His dedication, discipline, and patriotism remained with him throughout his life.
Leonardo was also an active member of the Brownsville Nite Lions, where he enjoyed serving his community and building lifelong friendships. He believed in helping others and valued the fellowship that came with serving alongside fellow members.
In his free time, Leonardo found peace and happiness in the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, appreciating the beauty of nature and the simple moments spent with family and friends. He was also a loyal Dallas Cowboys fan who looked forward to every football season and never missed the opportunity to cheer on his favorite team.
Though his presence will be deeply missed, the love he shared, the lessons he taught, and the memories he created will forever remain in the hearts of his family and all who knew him. His legacy of service, compassion, and devotion to family will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched.
Leonardo is survived by his sons, Leo Villarreal, Dominic Villarreal, and Dimitri Villarreal; his daughter, Dorissa Villarreal; and his sisters, Rosalinda V. Gonzalez and Hilda V. Lara. He also leaves behind 6 grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Leonardo was preceded in death by his father, Leonardo Villarreal; his mother, Eudelia S. Villarreal; his grandmother, Leandra G. Sanchez; and his nephew, Cesar J. Gonzalez.
Visitation will be held at Funeraria Del Angel Buena Vista, 125 Mcdavitt Blvd, Brownsville, TX 78521, US, on August 5, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm, with Military Honors from 6:30 pm to 7:00 pm and the Rosary from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
