It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Margarita F. Ibarra on August 9, 2025. Margarita passed away peacefully at home surrounded by love and family. She is survived by six children, nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
Margarita was born in a humble home in Montemorelos, Nuevo León on February 13, 1938. As a result of the heartbreaking loss of her mother when she was only eight years old, she entered the workforce at an early age. This painful period in her life unlocked an enterprising spirit and business savviness that she carried for the rest of her life. The loss of her mother also led to the creation of an immensely strong bond with her siblings. In her final days she often spoke of joining them soon, which brought her happiness and peace.
Margarita met Concepcion Ibarra in Montemorelos and the two married in the early 1950s. They emigrated to the U.S. in 1956 and made Brownsville, TX their home. They went on to raise six children, selflessly doing whatever they could to ensure their children had opportunities they did not.
Margarita’s industrious spirit never diminished. She earned her GED and along with Concepcion, she became a US citizen in 1990. Margarita enjoyed a 20-year career with Brownsville ISD Food & Nutrition Services, earning the title of manager and was recognized as a model employee.
Despite her many accomplishments, Margarita will be remembered most for something intangible—her warmth. Everyone who visited the small wood-frame home on McDavitt Blvd. knew she would greet them with a smile and an open heart. She was a consummate hostess, and the dining room table was where she reigned. Spending afternoons playing lotería and recounting family stories over coffee and pan dulce filled her with joy. We will miss her in ways that we cannot imagine but are eternally grateful for the love and memories she leaves with us.
The Ibarra family would like to thank St. Luke Catholic Church and THE MEDICAL TEAM, INC. for the loving care they provided Margarita in her final days.
A visitation for Margarita will be held Thursday, August 14, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM in Chapel of Angels with a rosary at 7:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Buena Vista, 125 Mcdavitt Blvd, Brownsville, TX 78521.
