Mrs. Maria Antonia Barrientos a long-time resident of Brownsville, Texas passed away on December 29, 2021. Mrs. Barrientos was born in Refugio, Texas on January 27, 1935 to Mr. Gregorio Guajardo and Librada Olguin.
She is preceded in death by her husband Mr. Luis Barrientos† and her two sons; Carlos† and Jose Manuel Barrientos† and her granddaughter Maria Del Jesus Barrientez†, her beloved parents; Mr. Gregorio Guajardo† and her mother Mrs. Librada Olguin†, her three brothers; Santiago†, Gregorio† and Manuel Guajardo†, three sisters; Margarita Villarreal†, Isabel Montemayor† and Angelita Vela†.
Mrs. Maria Antonia Barrientos is survived by her two sisters, Fela Smith and Sofia Gomez; her three daughters; Irma Carmona (Marco Antonio) from Brownsville, Texas, Veronica Ann Castillo (Ricardo) from Brownsville, Texas and Maria Elena Barrientos-Villegas (David) from Houston, Texas. She is survived by one son Juan Luis Barrientez (Juanita) from Brownsville, Texas. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, Luis Antonio Carmona, from Brownsville, Texas, Jessica Fuller (John) from Harlingen, Texas, Maricela Barrientos (Kevin Marin) from Houston, Texas, Maribel Barrientos-Trevino(Francisco) from Houston, Texas, Johnny (Cristina) Barrientez from Houston, Texas, Nicolas and Ricardo Castillo from Brownsville, Texas, Mary Sue Castillo - Mireles (Adrian) from Brownsville, Texas and Krystle Barrientos, from Austin, Texas, Jose Barrientos, Jr. from Waco, Texas and Cindy Serna from Houston, Texas. Mrs. Barrientos is also survived by numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Maria Antonia Barrientos was a housewife and a very kind, patient, and loving mother. She was a compassionate human being, who was always willing to help those less fortunate, despite her humble beginnings. She was also a woman of great faith and humility; she prayed the rosary daily and spend many hours of the day praying to our Heavenly Father and our Holy Mother. Her patron Saint was San Judas Tadeo (St. Jude Thaddeus).
She always talked about her love for her dad Gregorio† and her mom Librada†, before her passing she requested that we place purple flowers on her casket because those were her dad’s favorite color of flowers.
The family would like to thank her caretaker Bertita and the Valley Regional Hospital Brownsville doctors and nursing staff for the care and love provided to Mrs. Maria Antonia Barrientos.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at the Buena Vista Funeral Home, from 1:00-9:00p.m., with a rosary starting at 7:00p.m.
A Mass service will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church (555 W. St. Francis St., Brownsville, Texas) on Wednesday, January 5th at 10:00a.m., followed by burial services at Buena Vista. Mrs. Antonia Barrientos will be laid to rest next to her son Carlos Barrientos†.
