

Miriam was born to Eva and Valentin Saiz on August 12, 1980 in Brownsville, Texas. Since she was a child, Miriam showed how dedicated she was to her goals; whatever she set her mind to she would achieve. She continued with that mentality as she grew up. Miriam was very disciplined and wanted to serve her country in a higher capacity, and as a result she enlisted in the United States Air Force. While in the military, she bettered herself and earned a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Education. She also earned many lifelong friends that became family.
What a wonderful and friendly person she was! Always happy and with a smile that would light up any room, she quickly caught the attention of Robert. They dated, fell madly in love for each other, and got married on June 11, 2011. Sadly, quickly thereafter, Miriam was diagnosed with cancer. Miriam being Miriam, she always faced her foe with grace, courage, dignity, and above all, faith.
Miriam and Robert welcomed two beautiful children, Ariana and Roberto, to complete their family of 5 along with their oldest son Yair. Miriam loved being a mom above all else. She was a devoted mom and wife, all while excelling in her military career.
Through her hard work and dedication, she made the rank of Master Sergeant. She continued to set higher goals, and achieved each one of them. Eventually, earning her Master Degree in Business Administration. She did so while raising her family, fighting cancer, and efficiently holding the position of Director of Radiology at Brooks Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. She retired after proudly serving 18 years in the military.
After her retirement, Miriam relocated her family back to her hometown. Her outstanding resume and relentless attitude secured her the position of Director of Patient Safety at Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville, Texas. There, Miriam’s work relationships quickly turned into great friendships. Miriam was a strong warrior and did the impossible! She bravely beat cancer by surpassing the 5-year life expectation she was given. Throughout her adult life and her battle with cancer she held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with those who surrounded her.
Miriam is survived by her parents Eva and Valentin Saiz; her husband, Roberto Montalvo; her children, Yair, Ari and Tito; her sister, Nancy, and niece Yasmine; her brother, Juan Saiz, sister-in-law Perla and nephew Nico; her parents-in-law, brothers in law, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
