She is survived by her siblings Jose Hernandez (Mary), Alvin Hernandez (Terry), Amy Grundy (David) and sister-in-law, Mary Ann Garcia. She will also be fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews, all of whom she adored and cherished.
After graduating from Brownsville High School in 1955, Ofelia spent her life deeply rooted in the community she loved. Shortly after graduating, Ofelia began her career at Southwestern Motor Transport where she dedicated 45 years of service before retiring.
A devout Catholic, she attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and was a dedicated parishioner at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Ofelia’s faith was central to her life, and she found comfort in offering daily prayers to the Virgen de San Juan and Padre Pio, seeking their blessing and protection for herself, family, and friends.
Ofelia loved planning and attending her birthday gatherings which included music and dancing as this gave her an opportunity to celebrate with family and friends. As an avid reader, Ofelia enjoyed reading novels by Danielle Steele and pages of the Brownsville Herald. Her favorite spot to eat breakfast was Mi Torito Restaurant, where she sat at her favorite table by the door to read the newspaper and carry-on conversations with the staff and patrons as they entered the restaurant.
Anyone who knew Ofelia knew that her favorite color was red, a reflection of her energy and lively spirit. Ofelia brought joy to those around her, and she will be dearly missed.
