Ofelia “Ofe” Diaz Ibarra, age 92, passed away peacefully at her home on July 24, 2022 to be with the Lord. Ofelia was born on August 2, 1929 in Tepic, Nayarit Mexico and was the last of 8 children born to Maria Diaz Rea.
Ofelia now joins her mother and siblings in heaven: Maria Diaz Rea, Pablo Rea, Ursulo Rea, Rogelio Rea, Elvira Rea, Felicitas Rea de Carpena, Alfredo Rea, and Marcos Rea.
She leaves behind her two daughters, Patricia Ibarra-Castillo and Araceli Brown and one granddaughter, Mariana Lucia Corona.
Ofelia was a loving mother, grandmother, and homemaker that loved the beach, spending time with friends and family, caring for her pets, watching boxing matches, cheering for her favorite soccer teams, and making people laugh. Ofelia was also known for her incredible untrained voice, singing bolero classics on radio stations and performing on stage in Tepic and Mexico City after winning a Radio singing contest in her early twenties. Having come from a family of musicians, she had been singing most of her life and developed her skills from just listening to her brothers play in a band.
She lived her final years dealing with late-stage Dementia. She will be deeply missed but her fighting spirit will live on.
A visitation for Ofelia will be held Thursday, July 28, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM with a rosary at 3:30 PM in Chapel of Peace at Funeraria del Angel Buena Vista, 125 Mcdavitt Blvd, Brownsville, Texas 78521.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.funerariadelangelbuenavista.com for the Ibarra family.
