Oscar Sanchez Salazar, born on November 6, 1943, in San Pedro, TX, peacefully passed away on May 18, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Oscar was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather, whose warmth, dedication, and kindness touched the lives of many.
Oscar worked as a bus driver for Los Fresnos CISD for 28 years. His commitment to the safety and well-being of the students earned him the Employee of the Year award, a testament to his hard work and dedication.
Oscar was a man who walked by faith and lived it out. Always seeking and giving glory to our Lord Jesus Christ. He always believed God was good and walked right alongside him regardless of his circumstances or challenges.
Oscar is preceded in death by his father, Anselmo Sanchez, his mother, Demencia Salazar, his brother, Teodoro Sanchez, and his sister, Maria Del Carmen Sanchez. He is survived by his devoted wife, Ofelia Sanchez Cruz, who stood by his side for 58 wonderful years.
He leaves behind his cherished children: Oscar (Brenda) Sanchez from San Antonio, TX, Oscar "Cano" (Gloria) Sanchez, Delma Sanchez, and Erika (Joe) Garcia from Olmito, TX. As well as his sisters: Francisca Sanchez Villareal and Angelita Sanchez Ramirez. His legacy lives on through his nine grandchildren, which include his granddaughters: Bianca Dominique Gosser, Jenika Selena Sanchez, and Tabitha Sara Garcia, and great-granddaughters: Giada Grace Gosser and Elena Sanchez, who brought immense joy to his life. Grandsons and great-grandsons are listed below.
Oscar will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was a guiding light to his family and friends, always ready with a kind word or a helping hand. His memory will live on in the hearts of those he loved.
A visitation for Oscar will be held Sunday, May 26, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a Rosary at 7 pm in Chapel of Peace, at Funeraria del Angel Buena Vista, 125 Mcdavitt Blvd, Brownsville, Texas 78521. A mass will occur Monday, May 27, 2024, at 12:00 PM at Our Heavenly Father Catholic Church, 9178 Tomas Cortez Jr St, Olmito, Texas 78575. A burial will occur Monday, May 27, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Buena Vista Burial Park, 5 Mcdavitt Blvd, Brownsville, Texas 78521.
The pallbearers honoring Oscar's life will be his grandsons: Hector Ivan Sanchez, Josh Lee Sanchez, Matthew Caylan Gosser, Oscar Ivan Sanchez, Tristan Joseph Garcia, and Trey Joseph Garcia. Honorary pallbearers will include Oscar Sanchez, Oscar "Cano" Sanchez, Joe Garcia, Miguel Gomez, Jezreel Sanchez, Zeke Sanchez, and Gavin Grey Gosser.
