Born and raised in Brownsville, Texas, Ramon was a proud retiree of Brownsville Public Utilities Board (PUB), where he dedicated many years of hard work and service. He was a man of strength, loyalty, and deep love for his family—always putting others before himself and protecting those he cared about with his whole heart.
Ramon found joy in life’s simple but meaningful moments. He loved fishing, cheering on high school football, and spending time with his siblings. Some of his most cherished memories were made at Boca Chica Beach, where laughter, peace, and family filled the air. He especially enjoyed fishing at Boca Chica, El Puente de los Lobos, and the Gayman Bridge, places that brought him calm and happiness.
One of Ramon’s favorite traditions was gathering every Wednesday night with his brothers at their dad’s house to barbecue. These weekly get-togethers were filled with laughter, stories, and the warmth of family—moments that meant the world to him.
Ramon was a man of many talents and hobbies. He loved fishing, making lamps, arts and crafts, building things, welding, and woodworking. He enjoyed listening to music, going to the movies, and was a true football fanatic. He also loved watching Godzilla movies and Power Ranger movies, which brought out his playful side and created special memories with his family.
Above all, Ramon was a devoted father and grandfather. He had a special bond with his daughter, Claudia Elvia Abete, whom he lovingly called his “pumpkin,” a name that carried a lifetime of love and protection. He saw that same spirit in his granddaughter, Jimena, who reminded him so much of his daughter as a baby—his “new pumpkin.” He also took great pride in his grandson, Jesus Ramon, admiring his strength and often reminding him to take care of his momma, whom he always called “his baby.”
Ramon was the kind of man who could sense when something was wrong and knew exactly how to make it better. His presence was a comfort, his love was unwavering, and his legacy will live on through the lives he touched.
A man of faith, Ramon is now at peace, free from pain, and resting in the arms of Jesus. His daughter, Claudia, finds comfort in knowing he is being reunited with his beloved mother, Maria Elvia Abete, who was surely waiting for him with open arms.
While his family’s hearts are broken, they find peace in knowing they will see him again.
He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
He is survived by his wife, Olga; his father, Ramon Abete; his brothers, Rene Abete (Adriana), Abelardo Abete (Irma †), Richard Abete (Norma), and Robert Abete (Griselda); his sister, Lety Abete; his daughters, Claudia Abete and Mary Ann Abete (Tony); his step son, John Bernard (Rosa); his step daughter, Belinda Bernard (Hector); his step son, Justin Trevino (Alicia); and 11 grandkids and 13 great-grandkids. He was preceded in death by his mother, Maria Elvia Abete †.
