When our mom, Rosa Maria Gonzalez arrived at church, she spared no time or pleasantries in removing the usher ribbons and barricades from her favorite seat. I knew, and the ushers knew, when she arrived, that her seat was spoken for. In church as in life, she was fearless, grounded, and secure in her convictions.
Today, Rosy claims a new seat at God’s table. Without hesitation she walked though Heaven’s pearly gates, down streets of gold, and rejoiced in God’s glory.
Rosa Maria Gonzalez, age 66, of Brownsville, Tx went with our Lord September 29, 2023.
She was born in Ciudad Valle Hermoso, Tamaulipas October 12, 1956 to Eva Razo and Federico Silva. Being the only daughter amongst 8 children was an adventure of its own. Rosy loved being around her siblings-David, Sergio, Alex, Pedro, Armando, Genaro, Flavio and was profoundly proud of each of them and often talked about how much she loved Tio Sergio’s sermons.
Rosa’s children meant the world to her as she did to them. Frank, Mayra, Danny, Steven, and granddaughter “La Nena” Alyssa often gathered around a table with mom to eat, laugh, and share celebrations. Though she loved cooking for her family, evangelical work, and watching soccer, Rosa’s favorite role was that as a grandparent. She treasured time with 7 grandkids and loved being their “Huela”, never failing to trade candies and chocolates for hugs and kisses. In her life, she wore many hats. She was an elegant woman who worked hard to propel her kids forward. She studied for and earned her Cosmetologist license, resuming her role later in life as a homemaker.
Rosa was an active member of Tierra Bella Family Church, devoting her time and energy as a prayer warrior and spreading the gospel to anyone with ears to hear. She loved praising and worshipping with her family and basked in God’s presence at every service. To Rosy, nothing was more important than her family’s eternal salvation. She instructed them in the Lord from an early age using illustrated children’s bibles. She added spirit and color to each character, captivating the young and older children alike. Her unwavering faith strengthened and led her through the toughest of life’s moments. Through pain, illness, loss, and adversity, she praised God and surrendered all she had and was to Him. She leaves behind a legacy and example of a race well run. It was through her encounter with Jesus that now multiple generations have come to know Him personally and are saved.
Rosy built memories across the stove, mixing her love and heart in every meal she prepared. We slurped on her sopas, scooped up “frijoles caldudos”, and rushed over to her place for our favorite “guiso”. Every spoonful was a testament of her love and care.
We’ll always imagine hearing her say “cochino!” or “cochina! Andas bien sacale puntas!”, as we stretch our arms farther than we can reach. She is the voice that rings in our ears when we are lost, and when we succeed. We couldn’t have asked for a better mother and will miss her every day.
Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved Rosy.
Rosa Maria Gonzalez, was preceded in death by her mother Eva Razo and is survived by her father Federico Silva and her children, Frank, Mayra, Danny, and Steven Gonzalez.
Her funeral services are scheduled for Monday, October 2nd at Del Angel Funeral Home on McDavitt. Viewing begins at 5:30PM, Funeral Service at 7PM, and the interment is scheduled for Tuesday, October 3rd at Buena Vista Cemetery at 2PM. Rosy requested we not wear black at her funeral, as she wanted to celebrate her transition to God’s kingdom. Monetary donations to the Gonzalez family will be greatly appreciated.
