Rosita Broca was born on November 7, 1927, in Balancán, Tabasco, Mexico, the beloved daughter of a ranching family. Though raised in the countryside, her spirit was drawn to music, creativity, and community rather than ranch life. As a young woman living in Villahermosa, she developed a lifelong love of dancing, and the joyful evenings she spent at local dances remained among her most cherished memories.
Rosita possessed a remarkable creative talent. She studied dressmaking and became an accomplished seamstress, skillfully creating clothing for her family and others. Her artistic spirit extended beyond sewing; she had a gift for flower arranging and found great joy in creating beautiful floral arrangements. She also shared her talents through a small cake business, lovingly baking and decorating cakes that became part of many family celebrations and special occasions.
While living in Villahermosa, Rosita met the love of her life, Oscar Broca. They were married on January 9, 1949, beginning a devoted marriage built on faith, love, and partnership. Shortly after their wedding, Oscar’s work brought them to Brownsville, Texas, where they established their home and raised their four children: Rosie, Delilah, Oscar, and Annie. Brownsville remained Rosita’s beloved home throughout her married life.
A woman of deep faith, Rosita was an active and devoted member of Mary Mother of the Church Catholic Parish. She faithfully served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a dedicated member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She also volunteered with the St. Vincent de Paul Society, living her faith through acts of compassion, generosity, and service to others. Rosita had a special place in her heart for children and generously assisted when the orphans from Salamanca, Mexico, visited to perform fundraising concerts, helping support their mission and making them feel welcomed and cared for.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Oscar Broca, who passed away in 1995, and by her son-in-law, John Habeeb.
Rosita’s greatest joy was her family. She is lovingly survived by her children: Rosie Habeeb (John Habeeb, deceased), Delilah Hainey (Mel Hainey), Oscar Broca (Renee Broca), and Annie Kennedy (Nolan Kennedy).
She was a proud grandmother to nine grandchildren, all of whom treasure memories of beach outings with “Nona” and her famous homemade chicken salad sandwiches prepared with love. Rosita was also blessed with two great-granddaughters, whose presence brought her immense happiness in her later years.
In her later years, Rosita moved to Flower Mound, Texas, where she lived near her son and his family, surrounded by love and care.
Rosita will be remembered for her gentle heart, deep faith, artistic gifts, and unwavering devotion to her family. Whether through a carefully sewn garment, a beautifully arranged bouquet, a lovingly baked cake, or a warm embrace, she expressed love in everything she created. Her kindness extended beyond her family to her church, her community, and those in need. Her legacy of faith, compassion, creativity, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
