
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Weldon Clarence Briggs, Sr. and Clara Ellen Hollenbeck Briggs, three brothers, Ralph, Delbert, and Richard, his son, Donald S. Briggs and son-in-law, Malcolm L. Day.
He is survived by his loving wife, Irma R. Briggs, daughters, Barrie E. Briggs and Susan “Susie” E. Day, grandchildren, Chelci D. Keller and Weldon S. Ray Briggs, great grandchildren, Marq Trevino, Corra Dawn Keller, and Zoie Elizabeth Keller, six stepchildren, twenty step-grandchildren, and two great step-grandchildren. Weldon C. Briggs, known to his family and friends as “Red,” was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where he faithfully served in various church callings. Scuba diving, cycling, and carpentry were among his hobbies. He was a self-made entrepreneur who valued hard work, honesty, and compassion for those in need, one of the last members of America’s great generation. He honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Weldon was truly loved by his family, he will be deeply missed, and in our hearts forever he will be kept.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, from 1:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Rose Lawn Funeral Home, 4464 Old Port Isabel Road, Brownsville, Texas, 78526.
A funeral service will take place at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 114 E. Price Road, Brownsville, Texas, 78521, on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. Interment with Military Honors will then follow via an escorted procession at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4464 Old Port Isabel Road, Brownsville, Texas, 78526.
